FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
BOOKING A HOLIDAY
Where can I get more information about a specific holiday?
We have detailed descriptions available for each itinerary on this website from the relevant holiday page. As well as the day-by-day, each itinerary has lots of additional information.
Why should I choose a guided holiday?
If you would like to have a stress-free holiday without having to make all the decisions, a guided holiday is for you. From luggage transfers and meal reservations to choosing the perfect trail for the weather that day, you don’t have to worry about a thing. The guided trips are tailored to meet the group’s needs. The guides are also great to have on the trail in order to communicate with the locals and talk about the region where you’re hiking. Many local treasures are known only to our guides such as an off-the-beaten-path secret picnic spot, trail, or restaurant.
What is included in the price of your holidays?
For each holiday, we provide a full itinerary on our website, along with details of exactly what is included. You may also contact us for further information. Our holiday prices are excluding flights.
Most of our walking (hiking & trekking) holidays include accommodation, transfers and meals.
Do I need cash, and if yes, how much?
The amount of cash you will need will vary by trip, but we always recommend having some with you. You can get cash from an ATM – be sure to check on what fees you might be charged for doing this. Also, in some villages, ATMs are not available.
How many people are allowed on a trip?
Guided: We typically consider a trip “sold out” when 4 – 16 people have signed up.
Tailor-made-guided: Completely up to you! Keep in mind, it can be difficult to book accommodations for large groups, say 18 or more people.
Are my kids old enough to hike?
You can contact us to gain further information about a hike, based on which you can decide whether your kids are capable of embarking on a trip.
When should I book? When is the latest I can book?
Always book as soon as possible! There are many reasons why it is beneficial to book early. It usually means the lowest airfares can be found, and that you can be more confident of a place on your chosen trip, especially if it’s one of our scheduled guided small group trip departures. The sooner you commit to a trip, the better chance we have of getting you into the best accommodations. Two-three months in advance is usually not a problem unless your holiday is during an especially busy time of year. We understand that sometimes you may wish to join a trip close to departure time, and we will always do our best to enable you to book a last-minute walking holiday. Please note that we do not impose a late booking charge. However, higher airfares and restricted availability are more likely to result from booking late.
Do I need to arrange travel insurance?
It is one of our terms and conditions of booking that you have adequate travel insurance in place before you travel with us. Whether or not you have any expectations of needing it, you truly never know when an injury, family emergency, etc. might get in the way of your travel.
Insurance is not included in our travel prices. Please arrange it through an insurance company of your choice.
Can I extend my stay?
We can assist you with accommodation and activities arrangements before or after your trip if you wish to stay longer and extend your holiday.
TRAVEL
Do I need visas?
The Visa policy of Montenegro is similar to the visa policy of the Schengen Area. Nationals of any country may visit Montenegro without a visa for up to 30 days if they hold a passport with visas issued by Ireland, a Schengen Area member state (EU), the United Kingdom or the United States or if they are permanent residents of those countries.
Visitors must hold passports that are valid for at least 3 months beyond the period of intended stay.
When should I buy my flights?
Use your best judgment, as every situation is different. If you’ve planned well in advance, then you will likely have no problem whether you purchase your flights before or after we have your trip confirmed. If you have time in your schedule to add an extra day on the front end of the trip we do recommend that. This gives you a buffer, in case a flight is delayed or missed, and you will not miss out on any trekking days.
What type of suitcase and how much luggage should/can I bring?
In general, we suggest having only one piece of luggage in addition to your backpack (20-30 l). The baggage limit is 23 kg per person.
Will somebody from the agency meet us upon arrival at the airport?
Your guide(s) or other staff from the agency will meet you at the airport.
Are airport transfers included?
All airport transfers that are stated in the itinerary of the trip are included.
ON THE TRAIL
What are my responsibilities/obligations as a trip member?
Keep in mind that different travellers will have different goals, perspectives, experiences and abilities. With that in mind, we ask that the group respect each individual’s conditions and needs throughout the trip. We want everyone to enjoy themselves to the fullest. Often, trip participants become lifelong friends.
“Wild Montenegro” Travel Agency reserves the right to decline to accept or retain any person as a tour participant should such a person’s behaviour, health or mental condition impede the operation of the trip.
What equipment/clothes is needed for the trip?
The right equipment for hiking tours is important for a convenient holiday. Take care that you wear comfortable clothes to meet the climate of the region and season. Always take a jacket/sweater with you as the weather might change quite rapidly.
We suggest you bring the following: hiking shoes, backpack (20-30 l), small backpack pharmacy, hiking poles (depending on taste), water bottle(s) 1 – 2 litres per person, digital camera (batteries /do not forget memory card), mobile phone and charger, sunglasses, casual clothing and shoes, functional sports underwear, T-Shirts, hat or cap (sun protection is important), jacket (windstopper), shorts, hiking socks, warm clothing, swimsuit, towel, toiletries.
What time will we start hiking?
This can vary depending on your hike each day, but we like to be on the trail no later than 9:00. If you are on a more challenging trip, though, you’ll most likely want to start a little earlier.
Is the water on the trail drinkable?
Many of our trips will have you passing by huts and/or mountain springs where you can fill up your water bottle. Generally, if the water flows out of a drinking fountain or mountain springs, it is safe to drink.
Are there toilet facilities on the trail?
Toilet facilities are generally only available in restaurants, huts, and guesthouses along the way. Otherwise, you will have to stop in nature.
Will I have any extra time to explore the town?
Most of your hiking days will get you to your hotel with a couple of hours to spare before dinner time, and you can use it to explore the town. We are happy to recommend you what to see.
What if I can not hike because of bad weather?
Bad weather may prevent you from doing the entire hike. It is impossible to tell you exactly what the weather will be like for your chosen holiday on your specific travel dates. We operate most of our holidays only during what is deemed to be the recognized season for trekking/hiking within those particular regions, and even then, there are likely to be climactic variations during these recognized periods; experiencing unseasonal weather is always a possibility.
MEALS
Which meals are included on the trip?
Breakfast is included. When no restaurant location is available on the hiking route, packed lunches will be pre-order. Dinner is available either in the restaurant in your hotel or in restaurants and taverns in the village near your accommodation.
I am a vegan. Can this be catered for?
We try to accommodate all food requirements – please advise us of your requirements at the time of booking. Although we endeavour to provide alternative options, it may be difficult in some restaurants to order vegan meals.
ACCOMMODATIONS
What kind of accommodation will I get?
It is a top priority for us to accommodate you comfortably for your overnight stays in a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere after a long day of being on your feet.
You will mostly stay in 3* hotels or in private lodgings (guesthouses, apartments, mountain huts) that are especially appealing—or the only choice in a remote location.
We have selected small family-run hotels and cozy guesthouses whenever possible for their intimate atmospheres, as well as for their ability to share with you the history and culture of their specific Montenegrin region. Generally, rooms in Montenegro are double or triple rooms (we will assign you a roommate of the same gender, if possible) and you may find that some are small apartments with a kitchen. If you request single accommodations, you will be required to pay the single supplement fee. Please be advised there are a limited number of single accommodations available, and single accommodations may not be available for the village stay.
Will I have cell service and Wi-Fi?
This is trip-dependent, but most accommodations do have free WiFi, and you will have cell service on many of the hiking trails where we send you. In some cases, you will not have reception while on the trail. Hotels do have WiFi, most in your rooms.
